What To Avoid At Cheer Tryouts

Cheerleading tryouts can be both nerve wracking and exciting. So it’s very important to know most of the things you should and absolutely should NOT do. Here are some of the things you should NEVER do at your cheer tryouts:

Have a bad attitude:

One of the main things judges and coaches look for is a good attitude. Make sure to be kind and as encouraging as possible! Don’t sit around and act like you don’t want to be there, have fun and give it your all! Be nice and respectful. Coaches don’t want someone on the squad that doesn’t try their hardest and disrespects their teammates. Don’t say you can’t do something and be negative about it, try your hardest to get that skill and accept it as a challenge. When a coach gives you constructive criticism, apply it to yourself instead of rolling your eyes and ignoring it. They want you to do your best, too!

Be shy:

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Show the judges and coaches you can be a leader ( a cheer-LEADER). Show off your confidence and leadership by offering help to other girls/guys at tryouts. Be willing to try something new and encourage others as well. Try not to be isolated from everyone else, introducing yourself to the coaches and people who are also trying out can help you deal with nerves and make it easier to seem confident doing what you’re doing.

Get involved in drama:

Getting yourself into unnecessary drama is a big mistake, especially on social media! A cheerleader should be a leader, not a follower. Take a leadership role on and off of social media by completely staying out of drama instead of adding on to everyone else’s nasty comments. It’s pointless and a waste of time and doesn’t give you a good representation as a cheerleader. Spreading positivity and nice words is a great alternative! Persuade others to join in on the kindness.

Apply these simple steps and have fun at cheerleading tryouts! Good luck!
