Deciding Between Cheer Teams

By  |  0 Comments

Imagine, you are in front of a crowd of fans and a panel of judges. You and your all-star team are preforming a complex routine. This is the moment you have prepared for all year. You love cheerleading and competition season and you cannot imagine doing anything else. Until you hear they are having tryouts for the school cheer team.

A decision needs to be made. Do you participate on both teams or choose between the two teams?

Decisions can be really hard to make. Especially when the choice is about what team you want to be on. While no one can make the choice for you, there are some things to consider that will help make the decision easier.

What kind of team would you perform the best on? If you love team spirit and want nothing more than to be cheering in front of your school, then the school cheerleading team might be the way to go! If you prefer meeting people outside of your school while doing the sport you love, then a competitive team might be for you.

Another factor to consider is time commitment. It’s a good idea when trying to choose a cheer team to ask the coach what a typical practice schedule would look like. If you participate in more than one team, then it would come in handy to know whether you can actually make it to practice or not. Can you give your full commitment to both teams?

Skill sets are also an important factor to consider when choosing a cheer team. Can you do the skills required to be part of the team? Cheerleaders who can do tumbling and high level stunting would be able to use those skills on a competitive team. If you consider your amazing cheer voice, sharp movements and high flying jumps to be your favorite skills, then your school’s sideline cheer team might be the best choice.

There’s a lot to consider when choosing which cheer team would be the best for you.  However, when you consider the differences, you will ultimately make the best choice for yourself.
