The Right Attitude For Cheer Tryouts

By  |  0 Comments

Believe it or not, tryouts are not too far away! Of course it’s important to keep your jumps, flexibility and stunt skills sharp, but more importantly is your attitude. The minute you walk into cheerleading tryouts, eyes will be on you! Coaches, tumbling instructors, gym owners and future teammates are keeping an extra eye to watch how you interact with others. Attitudes are contagious, good or bad, and tryouts are your chance to show the coaches that you can be a positive influence and role model for the rest of the team/organization.

Here are some tryout tips to keep you and your attitude on your “A” game:

1. Walk into tryouts with a genuine smile on your face.

2. Be kind and encouraging to others (you never know who your future teammate may be)

3. Show your confidence, by making eye contact with judges and coaches.

4. Embrace tryouts with a positive attitude.

5. Listen to the tips and corrections that the coaches/staff may point out. Take the constructive criticism and use it to help you be your best!

6. Be a positive role model! No matter what your age/level, someone is always looking up to you.

7. Listen to the tips and corrections that the coaches/staff may point out. Take the constructive criticism and use it to help you be your best!

8. If you make the team, remember that you represent the team both on and off the mat. Whether you’re in the gym, at school or out with friends, you are representing your team. Be kind, be accepting and be respectful.

9. Be sure to have social media etiquette: Don’t let the world of Facebook , Twitter and Instagram get the best of you . Post only positive messages and appropriate pictures to ensure you are making your gym and team proud to have you as part of their organization.

10. If you happen to not make the team , keep your head high and keep a positive attitude. Things can happen during the year and you never know if you are the next on the list to call up.

So as you prepare for tryouts keep in mind that your attitude is your #1 quality that your coaches, gym owners and teammates will remember.

Good luck at tryouts!
