Cheer Bag Checklist
“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” – Alexander Graham Bell
Cheerleading is a sport where it is important to be prepared for anything! In this blog I am going to share some of my cheer bag essentials! Packing your bag can be overwhelming to do the morning you leave for a competition so I suggest that you pack your bag the night before to reduce any unnecessary anxiety before you compete. I have a checklist to help me make sure that I pack all the items needed to make my day less stressful. I also like to pack all my items in the same compartments of my bag each time so that when I’m in a hurry I can grab what I need quickly. I also always have my team music downloaded on my phone so that I can listen to it and run my routines in my head before I arrive!
The most important item to pack if you don’t wear it to the competition is your uniform! Don’t forget if you only wear your top and not your skirt or vice versa remember to pack the other piece in your bag! Other items that are of importance are my bow, cheer shoes, extra shoestrings, socks, my warmups and competition make up. I also have a first aid kit that contains band-aids, a bottle of assorted medicines, (Advil, Tylenol, Benadryl and Pepto tablets) hair ties, bobby pins, nail polish remover, wipes, shout wipes, feminine products, and an extra pair of contacts and solution. Keeping all of this in one kit takes up less space in my bag and keeps me organized. Other items that are must haves are a travel size bottle of hairspray, comb, brush, tissues, and my phone charger.
Competition days can make very long days!!! As athletes we always want to look good but we also have to make sure that our bodies feel good. It is very important to always have a water bottle to keep you hydrated and some healthy snacks to eat to give you energy that is needed to perform. I also make sure to sneak in my bag my favorite candy which is Nerds!
It’s also a good idea to bring some cash along, there are usually booths set up selling food and competition shirts and bows! Let’s face it our bag always has room for one more shirt or bow!!!
Remembering things that you need for the competition is very important, however, having the things you need ready for your trip home is also important. In a separate bag I pack a t-shirt, shorts, fuzzy socks, a blanket and have my pillow. Being comfy helps me relax so that I can reflect on my days accomplishments!
