“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” -Plato

Music has been scientifically proven to improve your memory, boost your mood and reduce anxiety. Competition days brings a lot of emotions and it is very important to be on your “A” game. I find pre-competition music provides a much needed outlet to channel your energy whether you use it to calm your nerves or to hype you up before performing!

Cheer Mixes
There is no better music to prepare me for competition day than cheer mixes! I have a playlist on Sound Cloud with all of my favorite teams music and listen to it while I do my hair and make up. Some of the routines on this list are:

Pre-Competition Jams
Before I compete I need to be in the mindset that everything WILL hit! I listen to upbeat songs with a good beat. The songs that pump me up personally are:

I listen to all of these songs on the way to the convention center. I also made a station on Pandora inspired by the song “Clarity” that plays just the songs I need to hear to get ready for a big competition!

Sing Your Own Tunes
My team does not really listen to music together before warmups, but when we are backstage we sing theme songs from some of our favorite Disney shows. This takes our minds off the stress of hitting and calms our nerves before we take the stage!

From listening to cheer mixes while I’m getting ready to jamming out to some of my favorite songs on the way to the arena, I have found that music really does have both a therapeutic effect and prepare me for battle!
