Avoid These Cheer Competition Don’ts

By  |  0 Comments

With school starting and the fall season, means we’re only getting closer to competition season! Preparing for a competition is tough and can be a lot of work. Here are a few competition do’s and competition don’ts for your competition routine. Whether it’s getting ready for the big stage, or preparing at practice.

Always be on time! The earlier the better.

Stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water.

Get a lot of sleep the night before. It can be tempting to stay up late with your teammates, but it is more important to get some rest to have energy for your performance!

Give 100% at every practice, so you can feel confident going into the competition.

Have good sportsmanship towards everyone at the competition. Talk to and meet new athletes from other gyms.

Pack your uniform, makeup, bow, etc. the night before so you don’t forget anything (make a packing list to help you remember everything you need too).

Eat a healthy breakfast so you can have lots of energy for the day.

Don’t be scared! It’s okay to be a little nervous, because that only shows you care about doing your best in your performance! But don’t let the nerves get to you.

Don’t forget about any of your superstitions (I know we all have them)!

Don’t have a bad attitude.

Don’t forget to cheer on not only your team, but other teams at the competition!

Don’t focus on the negatives, look at the positives! Even if your team makes a mistake or something doesn’t go as planned, don’t let it affect you. Cheerleading isn’t always about the big wins, but the little ones you achieve with your team.

Don’t forget to have fun! You only get to compete with your teammates for one season, so make every performance count.
